Raleigh General Hospital Announces New Leader
November 2, 2016
Raleigh General Hospital announced today that Matt Roberts has been named chief executive officer (CEO), effective November 14. Roberts replaces Harold Siglar, who has served as interim CEO since May 2016.
Roberts most recently served as CEO of Glenwood Regional Medical Center (GRMC) in West Monroe, La. In that role, he drove significant improvements in the delivery of high-quality patient care; recruited 11 new physicians; opened five new primary care locations, including an urgent care/stat care clinic; expanded the hospitalist/intensivist program and included Neurology; started a cardiac/pulmonary rehabilitation clinic; and improved the hospital's performance on public reporting platforms.
"We are impressed with Matt's successes and are excited to welcome him to Raleigh General," said Robert Klein, chief operating officer (COO) of LifePoint Health's Central Group, of which RGH is a part. "Matt's natural leadership, community focus, and patient-centric approach to leading hospitals make him a great fit for Raleigh General and the Raleigh County community -- we are confident he will help us advance our mission of Making Communities Healthier."
Prior to GRMC, Roberts served as CEO of numerous facilities across the south, including The Medical Center of Southeast Texas in Port Arthur, Texas; Harton Regional Medical Center in Tullahoma, Tenn.; and Odessa Regional Medical Center in Odessa, Texas. Prior to his various CEO roles, Roberts held a number of hospital leadership positions including COO and associate administrator. Roberts' career began as a member of the U.S. Navy, where he served as a hospital corpsman for five years.
"We are eager to welcome Matt to Beckley and know that he will be a wonderful leader for our hospital and our community," said Nancy Kissinger, chairman of RGH's Board of Trustees. "His obvious passion for community and serving others paired with his deep knowledge of hospital administration will help take our community hospital to the next level."
Roberts holds a bachelor's degree in Economics and Psychology and an MBA in Finance, both from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, Tenn. He has served on numerous boards in West Monroe including the United Way, the West Monroe Chamber of Commerce and the North Louisiana Economic Partnership. Roberts also served on the Louisiana Hospital Association's Legislative, Regulatory and Policy Council.
"During my visits, I have been struck by the amazing friendliness of the people and beauty of the area, as well as the strong sense of commitment to the hospital by the wonderful people of Southern West Virginia," said Roberts. "This is a great hospital in a great community, and I look forward to joining the team and leading the hospital into the future."
Roberts will reside in the Beckley area with his wife of 12 years, Brandy, and their two young children Andrew and Will.
