Raleigh General Awarded 2024 ACC Quality Summit People’s Choice
September 26, 2024
Raleigh General Hospital was recently recognized during the American College of Cardiology’s (ACC) Quality Summit, for work being done to bring quality heart care to Southern West Virginia.
Out of more than 100 posters and 800 attendees, the 2024 ACC Quality Summit People’s Choice was a team from Raleigh General Hospital. The submission, Enhancing Data Quality in Cardiac Cath Labs: A Strategic Approach by Kimberly Perdue, RT(R), MBA, and Danielle Neely, RT(R), aimed to enhance data accuracy and compliance at Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley, WV. They found that the Chest Pain – MI Registry lacked crucial information due to limitations in access to multiple electronic medical record (EMR) systems. By improving access to essential EMR systems, providing targeted educational training, transitioning quality improvement oversight to the cardiac catheterization laboratory and hiring a dedicated data management professional to spearhead quality efforts, the team fostered significant improvement in data integrity across several registry metrics including PCI radiation dose documented, composite PCI guideline discharge meds and cardiac rehabilitation referral.
Perdue, the Cardiovascular Service Line expressed her gratitude for the hard work being done. “The strategic initiatives undertaken to enhance data quality in the Cardiac Cath lab have yielded results fostering a culture of continuous improvement and data driven decision making. We are happy to use our data to directly impact patient care. These results couldn’t have been possible without a team approach from the ER Champion to the Physician Champion and everyone in the cath lab.”
The American College of Cardiology (ACC) Accreditation Services has been helping hospitals and health systems improve care for patients with acute coronary syndromes (ACS), heart failure (HF), and atrial fibrillation (AF). We believe this is best accomplished by using quality and process improvement scientific methods.
